2017 Hyundai i30

It is no surprise then that the upcoming 2017 Hyundai i30 has been caught testing at the Nurburgring with heavy camouflage on it and it seems that the new model will actually be an all new car rather than just a refresh. It is unclear for now what type of platform it will receive but this may be one of their first models to get a new modular platform. Hyundai released their facelifted i30 back at the Geneva Auto Show this year but it seems that they finally realized that in order to be successful in this highly competitive segment, they need to come out with new models at least once every five years.

Under the Hood

Under the hood of the 2017 Hyundai i30 there should be upgraded or new engines altogether. Unfortunately 2017 Hyundai i30 did not release anything about it but it seems that the engines will differ depending on where the car will be sold. In the US it will likely get rid of its current 2 liter naturally aspirated petrol engine in the favor of a smaller turbocharged 1.4 or 1.6 liter unit which could easily provide just as much power and even more torque, all while using a lot less fuel.

In Europe on the other hand the car will come with a few petrol engines ranging from a tiny 1.2 liter all the way up to a 2 liter naturally aspirated unit which will be carried over from the current model. The current 1.6 liter diesel engines will likely be replaced by a lower end 1.4 liter unit with around 95 horsepower while the top end model will get another 1.6 liter diesel which will offer more power and torque than before while being more refined which would be quite a nice improvement.

Design – More aggressive

The design of the car will also change quite a bit over that of the current model. It is likely that the car will borrow extensively from the new Tucson which has been said to be the precursor for all the upcoming 2017 Hyundai i30 models when it comes to its design.

The 2017 Hyundai i30 should get a new larger hexagonal grille flanked by slimmer headlights, a more aggressive front bumper as well as a redesigned rear end with LED tail lights, a hidden exhaust system and also a lower than usual boot floor to make it easier to load and unload. Just like before, the i30 will be available as a 3 or 5 door hatchback or a wagon model. A sedan will likely be released under the Elantra name.

Inside look

Inside the cabin the trend should continue so even though it will not change dramatically, all the updates will make it a better car. It has been said that the center console will finally get rid of all those buttons in the favor of a cleaner design which will use a large LCD screen as the navigation and control screen as well as a small joystick on the center console. A standard climate control system should be offered as standard and the car will come with a lot of safety features for its class.

 2017 Hyundai i30 – Price

The car will likely be officially released either at the end of 2016 or in the early 2017 and it should be available for sale shortly after. The price will not change all that much so the base model will start at around €17,000 which is in the upper limit of its class. At this price point though, the i30 will come with a longer warranty, free service checks for some markets and even a better equipment level than the Golf or the Focus. This could finally give them the boost they need in order to become more than just an alternative.
